This applies to any citrus fruit. Orange, grapefruit, lime, and even pineapple. I purchased organic Sweet Orange Oil from Whole Foods for $4.49. I drop a few drops in my palms, rub them together and inhale, then rub my hands over my hair. It helps me to re-focus and refresh. Repeat as needed ;) You can also mix your oils in an odorless carrier oil such as sunflower or almond oil to create a yummy moisturizer for body and hair.

COMMUNICATION

Posted on September 21, 2014 at 10:10 PM Comments comments (0)

"Communication (from Latin commūnicāre, meaning "to share") is the activity of conveying information through the exchange of ideas, feelings, intentions, attitudes, expectations, perceptions or commands, as by speech, non-verbal gestures, writings, behavior and possibly by other means such as electromagnetic, chemical or physical phenomena. It is the meaningful exchange of information between two or more participants (machines, organisms or their parts)."

Communication is only 7% of what you say. Your tone of voice and your body language are more important in an exchange of information. Take advantage of every opportunity you get to have face to face communication with the people you care about and the people that come into your life with the potential to become someone special to you.

Put down your phone and log off of the computer! A great deal can be lost in translation through texts, emails, and even phone conversations. Nothing can replace seeing, hearing, touching, tasting (if you're lucky haha), and smelling (but not right after Zumba class haha, and ha) the loves in your life. A little human contact can go a long way. EVERY Body should experience a hug and a smooch every day ;)

100 Days Facebook Free

Posted on September 9, 2014 at 12:10 AM Comments comments (0)

I just cut myself off from Facebook and Instagram. I deleted the apps from my phone approximately eight minutes ago. It felt freeing...followed by a few seconds of panic, followed by relief. I don't know what I will be or how I will feel on the other side of the next 100 days, but I believe that I will land in a good place. Follow me here, or let's chat at class.

I have a short stack of books to read, online courses to take, and notebooks to journal. Only good things can possibly come out this challenge. Stay tuned...

I loved reading this article and had to share it. Your butt is awesome, and not just because it looks good in jeans :D

You are constantly using them, so having strong glute muscles is important. Your glutes are the biggest muscle group in your body and they burn a lot of calories when you work them. Read this article and get in touch with the inner workings and function of the muscles that make up your booty.

Pursue Happiness...It's the Law!

Posted on March 1, 2014 at 11:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Did you know that The International Day of Happiness is celebrated throughout the world on the 20th of March? It was established by the United Nations General Assembly on 28 June 2012. The Resolution states that the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal and is essential to the well being of all peoples.

Assembly Resolution A/RES/66/281 states in pertinent part:

The General Assembly,[…] Conscious that the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal,[…] Recognizing also the need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well-being of all peoples, Decides to proclaim 20 March the International Day of Happiness, Invites all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system and other international and regional organizations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and individuals, to observe the International Day of Happiness in an appropriate manner, including through education and public awareness-raising activities[…]

DOMS - WTH?

We have all experienced DOMS. What is it? Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness. It is more than likely that soreness you feel the 24-48 hours after trying a new work out or introducing new exercises into your current work out. Enter Zumba Glutes to get those glute muscles fired, and Zumba Core to incorporate more standing core exercises into class, and yeah...you will definitely feel different in the next 24-48 hours.

The silver lining is that DOMS is a part of  the process of your body adapting to an increase of physical demands. Trust and know that you are building more muscle, gaining stamina, and greater strength as your muscles recover. Gentle stretching through these 24-48 hours will not stop the onset of soreness, but will help you feel better. Staying active at a lower intensity can alleviate some of the discomfort also.

It is good practice to learn how our bodies and minds respond to exercise and why. Read more about DOMS here! Good info...

I just read this...

Listen to your heart and take action now.

Tomorrow is not promised but is anticipated with much hope.

Just a reminder to me to pay attention to life, live it full out whenever I can, follow my instincts, don't sweat the small stuff, tell the people I love that I do more often. I will continue to learn, continue to care, and remember to live in the moment! Happy Holidays Friends!

Don't Kill My Vibe

Posted on November 6, 2013 at 12:00 AM Comments comments (0)

I ran across this article and thought it might be a good read. Zumba is a group fitness exercise and sometimes a group can have it's own silent drama. I am grateful that this setting does not describe the classes that I lead, but over the years as a fitness enthusiast and today as an instructor trying different formats and attending fundraising events, I have encountered bad vibes.

"More than anything, I resented the energy I wasted analyzing the bad vibes while in class, when I should have been blissing out."  This sentence written by the author really spoke to me. Read on...

Empowerment!

Posted on May 9, 2013 at 11:35 PM Comments comments (0)

Simply put, when you empower someone, you give them the tools they need to do something. It can be spiritual, educational, or physical.

The ability to move your body a certain way, or being able to physically endure something gives you power. It makes you feel strong and accomplished. As a fitness instructor I feel empowered because my group fitness class is the one place where I can command a whole room full of people to move a certain way, when I say. Looking out at the faces in the room, seeing their smiles, their eagerness and joy is empowering. I did that!

Improving your level of fitness can be empowering. Every week you push a little harder and you eventually begin to notice that your form is improving (you're getting stronger), you're clothes are looser (you are losing inches), you're breathing a little easier (your endurance is improving), you're eating habits are improving and your sleeping better. That's Empowering!
